Carla Ridge II
Located in the historic Trousdale neighborhood, this residence presents a single-story, substantial facade of rough-hewn limestone blocks to the street. Once inside, the spatial experience of the house evolves into openness: a series of three discrete, linked pavilions are oriented to views of the city. The first pavilion, the entry to the home, contains the great room, kitchen and dining areas, and informal living spaces, spa deck, and pool. The second pavilion houses the library, office, guest suites, and formal living and entertaining spaces. The last pavilion comprises a secluded master suite and two private decks offering exclusive views over the hillside.
Teak ceilings and travertine floors unify the pavilions interstitial spaces as well as the interior and exterior. Framing fragile, full-height panels of transparent glass with massive blocks of carved limestone introduces a striking element of contrast to the design.
