Building their dream home just outside downtown Austin, our clients provided a clear brief. They desired “a physical metaphor of the lives we wish our children to live – of grace, style and quality without pretension, warmth and character without falsehood, and cleverness without malice.”

Tucked into lush greenery, the carefully crafted H-shaped floor plan of this residence captures natural light and creates a balance between social spaces and moments of refuge. Gathering space for enjoying dinners, pool gatherings and relaxation are in the center of the home, while private wings are layered to either side of the property. Cantilevered bedrooms float into the trees as the hillside slopes away below and exposed beams top clear-story windows, evoking a dreamy sense of living in a floating treehouse. The exposed cedar structure also mimics the forested site and soft plaster and brass accents elevate the interior palette.
