Carlson Park Residence
The Carlson Park residence is a prototype for custom homes within the aging suburban neighborhoods of Southern California. The design investigates challenges faced when constructing in an existing but evolving community that contains many of the original homes from the tract development of the 1930s. Efficient engineering and floor plan layout allow simple materials to highlight the home's design. The kitchen serves as the heart of the home both in design and function. From the kitchen island one can see north through the dining area to the exterior terrace. A large pocket door system allows uninterrupted access to the exterior and creates a continuous interior to exterior great room. A breakfast nook opens to the eastern morning light while the family room opens to a two-story atrium and east to the rear yard. The atrium also provides natural light and ventilation to the master suite above.
